The Gogan Family

I was recently send the following wonderful photos by OFH reader,Tracey Miller. She was sent them by a relative of hers, Ross Gogan. They are reproduced with the kind permission of Ross Gogan and family.

Tracey said:- These are my great great grandparents and their children being my Great Gran Amy (far back left),  the 3 Gogan Boys that died in WW1 being Nathaniel (John – up the back), Laurence ( second from left seated) and Roy ( male seated on the right) and the rest of the gang.

This picture was taken by R Vere Scott in Kalgoorlie which operated between 1910-1915, its estimated this photos will be between 1912 – 1916.

The 3 little girls is a picture of the Gogan girls when they were younger.  The fact that there is only 3 of them I am assuming they are the older 3 being L to R Amy, Kathleen and Daisy

The first son to die – Kalgoorlie Miner 28 July 1917 –
GOGAN. — In sad and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Jack, killed in action at Pozieres, July 29th, 1916, aged 28 years.

He gave his life for his country,
For honour, faith and right ;
With us his memory ever lives.
He fought a noble fight.
He left his home in health and strength,
No thought of death was near ;
No loved ones stood around him,
To bid a fond farewell.
No word of comfort could we give
To him we loved so well,
‘Midst the roaring of the battle
And the rain of shot and shell.
Fighting for home and country,
He like a hero fell.
Oh ! Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Have mercy on his soul

    Really interesting and sad the three brothers lost their lives. I live close to where Laurence is buried and have a photo of his headstone. If anyone is interested I could forward it for inclusion. Just let me know.
