Many of you may have seen this sign which is located near the entrance of the carpark near Kmart in Brookman Street. It is on the site of what used to be the corner of Cassidy and Brookman Streets. It marks the point where the telegraph line entered into what was then called Hannans and now Kalgoorlie.
A ceremony was held by The Rotary Club on this spot to remember this event. From the clothing I would say it was during the 1960’s (because of the cars)
This photograph (above) shows a garage in the background (formerly Hehirs Motors) and the Hannans brewery would have been on the right.
At this time Cassidy street ran between Brookman and Hannan Street. When the K Mart shopping centre and carpark was built the road was closed off.

Dear Moya, Just an observation of cars in the above picture. Some of the cars are of 1960s production that would date the event to around 1962 or ’63, or maybe a year later. The sleek sports sedan nosed in to the right corner kerbside is a Sunbeam Talbot, a 1948 — 1956 model. The two Holden sedans on both corners, nearest to the meeting, are likely ’59 – ’62 FB or EK models.
