The following photographs are from the family album of Mrs Beth Edwards (nee Peirce) of NSW. She tells me that the large group photo was presented to her relative, Charles Withers Peirce, by the Brown Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade when he was Captain of the team. He is seated in the centre of the photo.

Charles Withers Peirce was born in 1874 in Ballarat Victoria and died in Kalgoorlie on 18 Jun 1920. Children: Charles Darrell Peirce (Born 1899 Victoria), John William Edward Peirce (Born 1901 Victoria) Leslie Hugh Peirce (Born Brown Hill WA 1904 died aged 3mths)
Beth’s Grandfather, Arthur William Peirce, was born in Ballarat in 1876 and was station master at Woolgangie WA 1905-1908 then at Gwalia WA 1909 – 1911

What a great Photo of the Brown Hill Volunteers Fire Brigade. My Grandfather, Mark Sonsee is in the front row. Sadly, I never knew him as he died from “Miners Complaint” in about 1933 when my Dad (Jack Sonsee) was just 18.
