St Mary’s Primary School, Kalgoorlie

This is a very early photograph of St Mary’s Primary school in Dugan Street, Kalgoorlie from the Western Argus newspaper in 1903. The building on the right is still there and is behind the admin office, I think that it may now be the school library. It was then called St Mary’s Convent School and was run by the St John of God sisters who also ran the St John of god hospital adjacent to the school.

The building on the left in the above photo with the writing on is where the car park and pre-primary area to the right of the school entrance are now.  If you would like to read more about the school you can go on their web site at:

Hi Moya , I went to this school back in 1971 and only for grade three , I’m not sure if any of the structure is original since that time but if so there’s probably a spot up on the roof where all of our cricket balls ended up : ) , also enjoyed eating kangaroo pies and sausage rolls every day.
I was wondering if there were any old pictures of buildings and grounds etc. from that time that are readily accessible on the internet , thanks…….

    • Hi Anthony I am currently working with the school to digitise their photo collection and to put the school admission records on my web site. I will keep you in touch with progress if you like.
