Ripping Yarns and Tragic Tales – 2nd May 2021

I hope that everyone s enjoying the same glorious weather that we are having this Sunday (or even Saturday or Monday depending on where you are in the world). It is sunny but cold, my perfect kind of day. My husband however is rugged up to the nines and complaining loudly. (:

Unfortunately, no progress in the office relocation has been made this week but the boxes which make up ‘The Great Wall of Moya’ in our garage, has now moved to the new office (much to husbands delight) making it look even worse so I won’t show you a photo. In these boxes are the remainder of the records from the Goldfields Family History Soc and the Coolgardie Historical Soc which have now closed down. Every bit of paper needs to be looked at and scanned if worthwhile. Other things that were collected before things like TROVE can be discarded. I love TROVE a ‘LOT’ as you may have heard me say before, once or twice, but I think of all the hours of cutting out articles in old newspapers and gluing them onto paper.

Something new that I have started using this week is ‘Grammarly” which is a digital writing assistance tool. It detects spelling, punctuation, and other common errors in texts. It now goes through everything as I type, plus if I load up any previous work it goes to town on it by pointing out every missed comma and spelling mistake. I must say I’m humbled and embarrassed at how deficient I have been. A bit like when you move the fridge and see what’s behind it.

I commend those that are very particular about these things for sticking with me, I must have been a sore trial sometimes. However, I am now a reformed character and my text will be, if not perfect, much improved. For anyone who does a lot of writing for any reason I would highly recommend Grammarly, there is a free version which is all I need for now. However, be prepared for digital criticism if you are a sensitive soul.

The good news is that one of my trusted volunteers, David, has now come back to help as he has a break. He is going to work on the Widgemooltha Cemetery (near Kambalda). There are 14 know burials there and a possible 5 others. I am sure he will make a great job of it. Thanks David.
