Ripping Yarns and Tragic Tales – 20th June 2021

Hi Everyone

Well this week I have made it official at last by having a cover designed for me by Design Sense for an upcoming publication which is going to be

‘The Best of Ripping Yarns and Tragic Tales’

There are over 1200 stories on the Outback Family History Blog at the moment so enough to cover all subjects. This will be an A4-sized softcover book which, as the title says, will be a collection of all the favorite stories from the last few years. I have been gathering together the most-read stories as I go, courtesy of Google analytics, and I hope that it will be something that is welcomed and hopefully bought for those who prefer their reading in book form and not just on a screen. I hope that it will be enjoyed by both locals and ex-pats. I will keep you updated on progress (or lack of)!

I am still working on the Leonora Cemetery biographies (as I always seem to be) but managed to get off track this week after a research inquiry about a burial in the Davyhurst Cemetery. This of course led me away down the rabbit hole and the two stories in Davyhurst last week and this week are the results. I often find I easily go ‘off track, however in my defense, that is where some of the best stories are to be found. I however promise myself that this week will see some significant progress with the Leonora Cemetery. I only have about 50 or so certificates to transcribe and then it the proofreading which I hope my husband will help me with. I haven’t actually asked him yet though. I must have a short attention span think as I get sick of one project after a while and have to swap around with something else. Do you do this as well?

I just want to thank everyone (I was amazed at how many took the trouble to reply) who got back to me about the questions on my three websites about who uses what. I will reply to everyone personally, so please don’t think I have forgotten you. I really do appreciate your feedback as it allows me to keep supplying what visitors to the sites like.

New things – Some wonderful hotel photos from Mark Leahy and John Pritchard that I didn’t have. I may have mentioned, just once or twice, how I love Goldfields Hotel Photos. It’s been a while since I have found a new one for Kalgoorlie Boulder but in the rest of our huge area they just never seem to stop turning up. If you do happen to have any obscure hotel pics do pass them on to me.(:
