Ripping Yarns and Tragic Tales – 11 July 2021

Hi Everyone

We have had an amazing week with over 68 new people joining our mailing list (the most ever). I have no idea how this came about, perhaps our readers have been asking their friends to join us – whatever the reason you are all most welcome if you are one of these 68 new readers.

One of the stories this week about the ghost of Edith McKay is something I wrote in 2002 (can it really be that long ago) and have now expanded on to find out what happened after she died. I hope you like the story and bear it in mind should you ever visit the place of her supposed haunting.

Just a favour to ask!  If you do come across a mistake on any of my three websites, even just a typo, please let me know, I won’t be offended, honestly, I won’t. Just this week a reader pointed out, that although I have updated all the details of the restored graves at Bardoc I had failed to update the website and this was two years ago (slightly more than a typo). Sometimes I read things and see what I think is supposed to be there and sometimes I mean to do things eg Bardoc and then think I have done it. If anyone has tips for keeping track of dozens of ‘To Do’s, do let me know. I’m not as organised as my files make me look. Email me any time research@outbackfamilyhistory.com.au

In regards to inquiries though. I stick firmly to the basis of ‘date order’ answering, well reasonably firmly!!  This is unless it is a quick one-line answer that I can dash off straight away. I make Sunday my day for getting through as many emails as I can. Some days I can do heaps and other days I may just disappear down the research rabbit hole and before I know it it’s Monday. The only thing that confuses this excellent rule, is that not all inquiries come by email. There are:

Messenger
Facebook Community x 2
Facebook post questions x 2
Texts
Phone Calls
Post (yes old fashioned paper post) got one just this week, it was lovely!
Feedback from Blog

I do try my very best to keep track of it all but should by any chance I haven’t replied to you in a reasonable time, just give me a nudge. I love hearing from you all and I promise to get back to each and every one. I’m fortunate that one of my volunteers (you know who I mean John) has been wonderful in replying to people on the Facebook community and doing wonderful research for them.

In my question a few weeks ago about website- Blog-WAVMM and who used what, I have had a great suggestion of including noticeable (or more noticeable) links to each site from the other two. Way beyond me so I will be asking someone more Tech than me to do it for me.

Anyway its good by from me, off to feed the animals. My husband and I are now ‘home alone’ for the first time in over a year. Our youngest daughter, and a COVID refugee at our house, has returned to Melbourne. The house will be very lonely without her and her adorable dog. Well as lonely as it can be with all these animals. Im sure we will adjust. Just in case you want to see, here is the ‘adorable dog’.
