MINER BURNED TO DEATH
AN ORA BANDA SENSATION.
WIDOW AND CHILDREN AT BOULDER
A fatal burning accident occurred at Ora Banda the last night when a miner, John Smith, was burned to death in his camp, which was destroyed. Maurice Walsh, a mate of the deceased, was the first to see the outbreak. The camp was contracted chiefly of boughs, and, although assistance was speedily forthcoming, nothing could be done to save the deceased, owing to the fierceness of the flames, until the fire had abated. The body when recovered was found to be completely incinerated. The cause of the fire is at present unknown. An inquest was opened this morning, before Mr W. Martin, J.P. The deceased leaves a widow and three children at Boulder.

A Shocking Fatality at Ora Banda— A terrible accident, resulting, in the death of a man named William Willcocks, occurred shortly after 1 p.m. yesterday, at the Victorious mine, Ora Banda. Willcocks was engaged at the saw bench sawing up blocks, when he somehow lost his hold of the piece of wood, which was hurled back with great force by the circular saw. It caughthim full in the chest, staving in his chest, and also inflicting a bad gash in his throat. The unfortunate man retained consciousness for about ten minutes, but, though everything possible was done for him, he gradually sank, and died about an hour after the accident. Immediately they were made aware of the occurrence the management despatched the motor car to Broad Arrow for medical assistance, and it was back at the mine with Dr. Lederman in 1 hour 23 minutes, but Willcocks was already beyond human aid. It is I understood that the deceased was a married man, and that he leaves a wife and several children, who live in Wittenoom-street, Boulder. The children are four in number, mostly grown up, the youngest being 13 years of age. The deceased was about 55 years of age.
