The following photographs from the family album of Carole Hampton were sent to me recently. Mudgedeen was her husbands Grandfather. Her husband is the son of Mudgedeen and Clara’s daughter Violet, from her second marriage.
Mudgedeen, (AKA Charles), was born in 1873 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, the son of M BARRADEEN. He married Clara Ellen WINDOW on 24 March 1903 at the Methodist Manse Port Augusta, South Australia. Clara was the daughter of Samuel James Ashmead WINDOW and Clara SMITH. The couple had seven children in 11 years. Mudgedeen died on 24 February 1916 in Leonora, Western Australia, at the age of 43, and was buried in the Coolgardie Cemetery, Western Australia.
Mudgedeen’s children were: Adjupdeen (Jack) born Port Augusta South Australia, Goolam Mahomet born Port Augusta South Australia died age 8mths at Coolgardie, James Mahomet (Butch) born 1907 Leonora WA, Violet Zuleikha born 1908 Leonora WA, Frederick Falseldeen (Fat), Gool Hasson ( Cuckoo ) born 1913 Leonora WA died1920, Goolam William (Dood) born 1915 Leonora WA. The families address when Mudgedeen died, was Leonora Garden Area 42c
I have not yet been able to fine a death registration for Mudgedeen, which should be in Leonora (Mt Margaret) registry district, but doesn’t seem to be there. Carol recently has had a memorial plaque placed on his grave, 104 years after his death. The first photograph is what it formerly looked like, and then a photograph of the new plaque.
The following notice appeared in the Leonora Miner on the 14th April 1917, 14 months after Mudgedeen’s death. I would say that the family were trying to wind up his business affairs before leaving the town.
