Large Attendance at Funeral

 

The unusually large number who followed the remains of the late John Hosken from his place of residence in Millen-street. Boulder, to the Methodist portion of the Boulder Cemetery, was testimony of the esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held during his lifetime.

The chief mourners were Mrs. Truman (his mother), Messrs. W. H. Hosken and K. Truman (brothers). The pall-bearers were the Mayor of Kalgoorlie and president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr. E. E. Brimage), the Mayor of of Boulder and president of the Bowling club (Mr. W. F. Coath), the president of the Eastern Goldfields Traders Association (Mr. P. C. Hunt), Mr. D. A. Weir (Boulder Racing Club). Mr. Percy Johnson (managing secretary of the Kalgoorlie Brewing and Ice Co. .Ltd.) Mr. J. P. Henderson (W.M. Golden Pillar Lodge).

A most representative gathering assembled at the graveside, where the Rev. John Morris officiated. Messrs. I. W. Goss and Co. carried out the funeral arrangements.

OBITUARY.

THE LATE MR JOHN HOSKEN.

Mr John Hosken, for some time accountant at the Merredin Brewery died in the Kalgoorlie Hospital during the week. The deceased was born in Bendigo in 1886, and accompanied his mother, brother, and sister to Western Australia in 1905, and his first position was with Mr. J, W. Shaclock. In 1918 the deceased was appointed secretary to the Boulder City Brewing Co., Ltd., and held that posi tion until 1924, when the shares were purchased by the Kalgoorlie Brewing and Ice Co., Ltd. In January 1927 Mr Hoskin was appointed secretary to the Boulder Racing Club, a posi-tion which he held until September 1929, when he accepted a position as secretary to the Kalgoorlie Brewing and Ice Co., at Merredin. He resign ed in April, 1932, and returned to the

He resigned in April, 1932, and returned to the goldfields, where he commenced practice as secretary, public accountant and auditor. Whilst in Merredin in 1931, deceased met with an accident, which seriously impaired his health. At the time of his death, Mr Hosken was secretary to the Chamber of Commerce, the Kalgoorlie Wholesale and Retail Traders Association and of various mining syndicates. He had held the position of secretary to the Chamber of Commerce for a period of three years. Whilst in Merredin he was an active member of the Merredin Bowling Club. The late Mr Hosken, who was a single man, was survived by his mother, sister and two brothers, who are residing in Perth. The funeral took place on Friday and the large number that followed the remains to the Methodist portion of the Boulder cemetery, was testimony of the esteem in which deceased was held during his lifetime. A very impressive service was conducted at the graveside by the Rev. John Morris.

John Hosken died of an unspecified heart disease in the Kalgoorlie Government hospital. He had been a patient for three days prior to his death.
