Mainly for Miners  By “Grafter.”

A deplorable accident happened at the. Horseshoe mine on Thursday morning, when Jeremiah Minehan met his death in a mishap whilst engaged in skidding a shaft.

By some means or other one of the runners became jammed under a set piece, causing it to break in two. The deceased must have been struck by the piece, and fell against the side of the shaft with his head under the set, the result being a broken neck

He was a very old hand on the mine, and a very old unionist, and a man well esteemed by his friends and acquaintances. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon in the Kalgoorlie cemetery. The Miners’ Union were represented by Messrs. Butler, Munsie, McCarthy, Green Dodd and Hurley.

As you will see the grave is in excellent condition after 110 years. Unfortunately all but the two largest Imortelles have been removed. This is a common occurrence, as rarely do they all survive. There is a little damage to the inscription but it is still readable.

Jeremiah’s wife Hannora, remarried in Sydney NSW in 1916 to George J FINDLAY.
