The Crown Hotel, Cue Parers.

When Parer’s Crown Hotel was built in 1894 it seemed a long way out of town, but the town has grown so much that the hotel, opposite the west end of Darlot Street is now in the busiest part of Cue – From ‘Just A Century Ago’

The owner of the Excelsior Hotel, Austin Street Cue, is Mr McMannaway who arrived in Cue on the 6th Dec 1895. He was for some time a councillor and it is largely owing to his efforts that the volunteer fire brigade was started. He is an ardent supporter of the sports.

  1. Thank you Moya for this article. My mother was born in Cue in 1910 and she told me her uncles were Publicans. Their name was Gill. Don’t know if you came across any of their names at any of these hotels.

I am always in awe of Moya’s work on W.A. history. My grandfather, J.H.George was the manager, then owner of the Murchison Times for over twenty years. My mother was born there in 1905. With regard to Gale Bates query, the Post Office Directories for Cue show a Thomas Gill, then Joseph Gill as publicans associated at one time with the Roscommon Hotel.

  3. Thank you Derek. I didn’t know the name of the Hotel. My Mother was born in Cue in 1910. Her mother (my grandmother) was Maria Gill. There were 9 of them. Thomas and Joseph Gill were her brothers and she followed them to Cue from New South Wales. Maria married John Dougall I’ll have to research more information about the Roscommon Hotel.

    Hi Moya,

I have a number of recent photos of Cue buildings, but have so far been unable to identify them, I was wondering if you could help? Thank you.
