Charles R L Finn – Grave Tales

Recently Outback Family History reader, Peter Sirr, sent me the following photograph of a baby’s grave in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. It appears to have been most carefully made from tin possibly by his father.

On Thursday evening, July 9, 1925, the members of the St. Ives Tin Can Band assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Finn, Widgiemooltha road, St. Ives, to welcome them home from their honeymoon. After giving the performers sufficient time to express their musical and artistic feelings with the various instruments in their possession, Mr. and Mrs. Finn invited the company to enter their new home, where refreshments were provided and a musical and elocutionary program was carried out. Before departing, Mr. Harry McCahon, on behalf of the company, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Finn for the cordial reception they had extended to the visitors. He thought it was a most auspicious event, inasmuch as it was the first marriage of a St. Ives resident; but Mr. Finn had set a precedent that was worthy of emulation by all other young men in the district. On behalf of the St. Ives residents in general and the Tin Can Band in particular, it gave him much pleasure to wish Mr. and Mrs. Finn all health, happiness, and prosperity in their married life. Cheers for the host and hostess terminated the proceedings.
