Music played a big part in the social life of everyone in the early Goldfields days. Most people could sing or play instruments or like these people be part of a band. Musical evenings in private homes were very popular as well as more elaborate musical events held in places like the town halls.
This photograph is wonderful as it has the names of all the members and shows the instruments played.

OMG, the person who is in back row looks like they may have the spelling wrong, the likeness of this person to other family members …. I have a very strong feeling he is a great uncle of mine
Angus John Roy, not Ray ….. & that would be his son S Roy in the front row.
Angus John Roy 1875 – 1953 married Martha Hines
Angus was born near Dungog NSW, when he & Martha married, the Roy’s & McMillan’s didn’t approve because she was Catholic & Angus grandfather Alexander McMillan was an Orange Man
So Angus & Martha moved to Boulder WA because of the disapproval …. he is the one of the younger brother’s of my grandfather Timothy Charles Roy
I’m just going by his face in the photo
Angus is the son of :
Timothy Charles Roy l & Martha (McMillan) Roy
I will send you a photo of his youngest brother & see for yourself if they are not very simular in looks,
