John ALVES was aged 35yrs and his occupation was as a Carrier, He was the son of John ALVES (Farmer) and Margaret McCAUGHEY. The bride, Mabel TAYLOR, was aged 17 yrs and was the daughter of George TAYLOR and Alice RICHARDSON. The witnesses to the marriage were Albert MUIR and A P RICHARDSON.

John and Mabel Alves were to have six children, all born in Coolgardie Western Australia except the last, Harold George, who was born in Wallaroo, South Australia. Less than a year after Harold was born, his father John died also in Wallaroo South Australia and he is buried there.

Mable and the children returned to WA after the death of her husband, no doubt for the support of her parents and family. Two years later, in 1911, she was to marry for the second time to Alfred E CRAVEN in Boulder WA. Alfred was a Fireman in the Perseverance Mine in Boulder. They were to have a further four children:

The Bride: Mabel TAYLOR was born on the 7th Jun 1880 in Mexborough, Yorkshire England. She emigrated with her family at the age of 3yrs and arrived in South Australia in 1883. Mabel died on the 29th August 1961 in Subiaco Western Australia. Mabel’s father is buried in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery.
The Groom: John ALVES was born in Mt Crawford South Australia on 12th June 1858. He was to return to South Australia in 1908 where his last child was born and he was to die there in 1909.
Alfred E CRAVEN was born in March 1884 in Liverpool England. The son of Alfred CRAVEN and Sarah JONES. After the death of his father in England in 1902 he emigrated to Western Australia with his mother and siblings. He died in 1964 in Mandurah Western Australia.
